News and Information
FUTURE CHAMPIONS As you may be aware, the club has been closed for a few weeks. This is because Senpai Phill's Fiancee Melanie Difford has recently given birth to Identical Twin Girls. Maddison and Gabriella were born 6 weeks premature and at the beginning were doing well when things took an unexpected turn... Maddison was born 3lbs 3oz and at 2 days old was diagnosed with a perforated stomach, the Paediatrition at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital said that she needed immediate surgery to repair her stomach. Due to the demand for surgeons in Wales, Maddison was sent by ambulance to St Michaels Hospital in Bristol and both Senpai Phill and Melanie went with her and stayed at St Michaels Hospital until she was transferred back to the Heath in Wales 2 weeks after the operation. The 2 weeks were a tough time for the new parents as their other daughter Gabriella remained in The Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant and were only able to return to visit her 3 times in the 2 weeks. Surgery on Maddison was a success but seeing their tiny baby girl in Intensive Care was tough, Senpai Phill and Melanie said "we met many people while sat in the Intensive Care unit and some of them had babies who were in far worse health than ours and our hearts go out to them, it makes us think how lucky we are. We can't thank all the medical staff at all the hospitals we visited enough". Maddison is now doing very well. She had to have her stomach stapled as during surgery they found that her stomach had burst at the front and back. She was a very lucky girl. According to the surgeon that performed the operation there has only been 2 other occasions in the world where this type of condition has occured. Maddison and Gabriella are true fighters (obviously take after their father). Senpai Phill says "once they can walk I'm sure they will want to learn Kyokushin Karate, maybe they will be the next British Champs like their dad was, they both certainly have the fighting spirit" Melanie and Senpai Phill would like to thank family and friends and students for all their messages and support through this difficult time. OSU Maddison and Gabriella were transfered to the University Hospital Wales (Heath) at the same time so after being seperated for 2 weeks they were finally reunited on Tuesday 16th March Hopefully they will both be home with mum and dad soon. Congratulations Senpai Phill and Melanie
